Weight
Of the 14% owners who felt their dogs were overweight 65% of those had their dogs on a
diet already.
Current U.K. sta s c state that over 50% of dogs seen by vets in the U.K. are currently
obese (Body Condi on Score (BCS) 4 or 5). Interes ngly the same study also stated that
70% of owners felt their dogs were at the correct weight.
This mismatch may be due to misunderstandings rela ng to body condi on scoring,
appropriate feeding for age and breed and inappropriate adjustment of food following
neutering.
Keeping Clumber spaniels at the right BCS can help to maintain joint and spinal health with
reduced risk of hip and elbow problems developing in young dogs if they are kept at the
correct BCS while growing.
This can help to maintain our working dogs in the field or remain ac ve for as long as
possible through their life and reduces the risk of injuries and arthri s.
