Of the 86 dogs affected the 5 most common problems were:
1)
Yeast infec ons: 44.8% of ear problems (13.8% of the dogs in the survey)
2)
Mild bacterial infec on: 27.6% of ear problems (8.7% of the dogs in the survey)
3)
Severe ear infec on that was resistant to treatment: 11.5% (3.6% of dogs in the
survey)
4)
Allergic ear disease: 12.6% of ear problems (2.9% of the dogs in the survey)
5)
Deafness: 6.9% of ear problems (2.2% of dogs in the survey)
These results are consistent with recent studies in the leading causes of ear disease in dogs.
Overgrowth of yeast and bacteria are o en linked to allergies and conforma on in spaniels
both of which can be inherited though there is no test at this me to check for risk.
