The lowest hip score in 2022/2023 was 0 while the highest hip score was 91.
The 15-year median was 11, and the 5-year median was 10, meaning 50% of the hips
scored in the last 5 years scored lower than 10. This indicates significant improvement over
the past 15 years.
The 5-year rolling trend in hip scoring shows that improvements in hip health are being
maintained.

This update shows that the number of dogs tested is decreasing significantly, with only 38
dogs tested in 2024. This may be because owners are choosing not to test their dogs or are
selec ng an alterna ve tes ng scheme like the Australian AKC scheme. It is highly advised
to use the BVA scheme, which is much more rigorous than the AKC scheme, as a panel of
judges assesses hip and elbow scores. This also helps ensure that EBVs and hip scoring data
con nue to be monitored through the Joint Kennel Club and BVA schemes, providing
owners with the informa on needed for informed breeding decisions.
Note that the Kennel Club does not accept results from AKC tested dogs due to the fact that
a panel of judges are not used to assess the results
