Of the 72 dogs with behavioural concerns aggression was a frequently reported issue with:
19.4% of aggression cases reported to be aggressive to other dogs.
34.7% of all aggression cases showing signs of resource guarding.
8.3% of all aggression cases showing fear-based aggression and 2.8% showing aggression
towards people.
Separa on anxiety accounted for 25% of all behaviour issues reported.
Clumber spaniels are renowned for being big gentle dogs with plenty of character. It is
important that when breeding temperament of the dog is taken into account not just
working ability to help prevent certain behavioural issues being carried forward.
It is also important to remember how a dog is brought up also has an impact on their
overall temperament and how they fit into society.

Temperament as an important character trait when breeding, to prevent
some character traits being carried forward. Ideally dogs with serious
temperament issues or faults should not be bred from.

WCSS and CSC to consider arranging talks on behaviour and puppy training
to help owners to grow a well-balanced dog
3)
Owners to consider early advice from trainers, behaviourists, and
veterinary behaviourists to help correct temperament issues noted in the
early stages as most issues can be dealt with if caught early enough
