Breeding Survey Results cont...
Health tes ng results prior to breeding in stud dogs were also very posi ve with the
majority of dogs having had hip, elbow and EIC and eye tests though numbers were lower
than bitches in most categories.
In stud dogs 90.4% had been hip scored and 80.8% had been elbow scored.
This number should ideally be 100% with all stud dogs being tested prior to breeding and
is something that can definitely be improved, by bitch owners not accep ng a stud dog
without basic health tests such as hip, elbow and EIC results ( ideally PDP-1 as well as this
is recommended by the Kennel Club for Clumber spaniels). All stud dogs should have an
eye test within the 12 months prior to producing a li er to check no abnormali es that
could be passed to the puppies are present.
In stud dogs 59.6% had EIC DNA tested while 28.8% were hereditary clear for EIC leading
to a total of 88.4%
Disappoin ngly in stud dogs, BVA eye tes ng 12months prior to breeding was less than
50% with only 44.2% having had an eye test in the 12 months prior to breeding, and only
19.2%. had had an eye test longer than 12 months before. Leaving only 63.4% of li er
produced by an eye tested stud dog.
